The differing arrangements of these structures caught my eye: one emerges from water, one hangs from the ceiling, one towers overhead, one reaches out in front of you. What used to be alive has eroded away, leaving only spiny remains.

These are all formations of rigid objects -- bones, antlers, a dead tree branch, the ruins of a dock -- that used to be part of a whole, part of something living or something instrumental to the living.
